About Us

BC-Salt-Spring-Island-PROOF.jpg

Founded on picturesque Salt Spring Island in British Columbia, Canada, i3DGear was created to solve a problem every long-time boat owner knows well: critical marine electronics and mechanical parts that are no longer available, yet still very much needed.

Today, i3DGear operates as a U.S.-based production company under license, continuing the original mission of reducing waste in marine electronics and plastics by manufacturing hard-to-find and obsolete parts for sailboats and powerboats.

Our focus remains on supporting proven, widely used systems — most notably the hugely successful Autohelm 4000 wheel pilot — where original replacement parts are long discontinued. Each component is carefully reverse-engineered, dimension by dimension, and frequently improved to be stronger, more durable, and more resilient than the original design.

i3DGear also designs and manufactures fully waterproof — and in many cases submersible — rudder reference units, replacing legacy models from Raymarine, Comnav, and Simrad, including frequency-based RF45X units.

Production today blends modern digital manufacturing with hands-on engineering: advanced 3D printing, CNC machining, laser cutting, electronics assembly, and mechanical fabrication. This approach allows us to keep production efficient, flexible, and responsive while maintaining the quality standards our customers expect.

Importantly, the original inventor and designer of i3DGear remains an active member of the team, providing design oversight, technical insight, and continuity of vision. This ensures that new and existing products stay true to the principles that built i3DGear’s reputation in the first place.

At i3DGear, we still believe in building products that just work — designed by sailors, for sailors — and in keeping trusted equipment operating long after the rest of the industry has moved on.
